Rotary Piston Vacuum Pump

  • Post category:Vacuum Pump

Product Introduction

The Rotary Piston Vacuum Pump is a legendary industrial workhorse, renowned for its exceptional durability and ability to operate reliably in the most demanding and contaminated environments. This oil-sealed, positive displacement pump is engineered like a tank, designed to handle large volumes of gas along with the dirt, dust, and vapors that are often present in heavy industrial processes. For applications like vacuum furnaces, heat treatment, and large-scale coating, where ultimate reliability and toughness are non-negotiable, the rotary piston pump is the trusted and proven solution.

Design Philosophy & Construction

The pump’s incredible robustness comes from its simple, powerful, and slow-moving mechanical design.

  • Core Mechanism: The pump consists of a large, eccentrically mounted piston (cam) that rotates within a cylindrical housing (stator). A hinge pin with a slide assembly separates the inlet and outlet ports and provides the seal point for the rotating piston.
  • Pumping Cycle:
    1. Intake: As the piston rotates past the suction port, the volume in its wake expands, drawing a large charge of gas into the pump chamber.
    2. Transfer & Compression: The piston continues to rotate, “sweeping” the trapped gas around the cylinder. The gas is funneled toward the exhaust port, and its volume is dramatically reduced, causing compression.
    3. Exhaust: The high pressure of the compressed gas forces open the exhaust valve, ejecting the gas from the pump.
  • Large Oil Reservoir: A key design feature is a very large internal oil reservoir. This high volume of circulating oil is the secret to its durability. It aggressively lubricates all parts, creates a robust vacuum seal, and, most importantly, captures and flushes contaminants like dust and condensed vapors through the pump, allowing it to “digest” dirty process streams.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Unmatched Durability: Built with heavy cast iron components and low operating speeds, these pumps are famous for providing decades of service in the harshest industrial settings.
  • Superior Contaminant Handling: The design is extremely tolerant of dirt, dust, and condensable vapors. The large oil circulation system continuously cleans the internal mechanism, preventing seizure and failure.
  • High Pumping Capacity: The single-stroke piston design moves a massive volume of gas per revolution, making it ideal for the rapid evacuation of large chambers.
  • Stable High-Vacuum Performance: It operates very smoothly and reliably when holding deep vacuum levels for extended periods, making it perfect for long process cycles.
  • Simple and Field-Serviceable: The mechanical design is straightforward, allowing for maintenance and even major rebuilds to be performed on-site, which is a significant advantage for large industrial installations.

Common Applications

The Rotary Piston Pump is found in heavy industrial applications where reliability is more critical than size or weight.

  • Heat Treatment & Metallurgy: The go-to pump for vacuum furnaces used in brazing, sintering, annealing, and hardening of metals.
  • Vacuum Coating: Used in large metallizers and coaters for applying decorative or functional coatings to glass, plastics, and metals.
  • Electrical Manufacturing: Deep vacuum drying and oil-filling of large power transformers and capacitors to ensure proper insulation.
  • Freeze Drying & Degassing: Industrial-scale lyophilization with high water vapor loads and vacuum degassing of molten steel.
  • Backing Pump: It serves as a powerful and reliable backing pump for vacuum booster systems (with Roots blowers) in high-throughput applications.
