Introduction: TheSeries Vertical Cantilever Sump Pump is an exceptionally robust pumping solution designed for the most arduous sump applications. It is engineered to reliably handle abrasive slurries, heavy sludge, and corrosive liquids found in industrial and municipal waste pits. Its key design feature—a vertical cantilevered shaft with no submerged bearings or seals—makes it incredibly durable and low-maintenance, as the most sensitive components are kept completely out of the pumped liquid. This pump is the ideal choice for deep sumps and aggressive fluids where reliability is paramount.
Operating Principle: The pump’s incredible durability comes from its unique vertical cantilever design:
- Motor and Bearings Above the Liquid: The electric motor and the entire heavy-duty bearing assembly are mounted on a rigid support plate that sits on top of the sump or tank, completely in the open air.
- Extended Cantilever Shaft: A long, large-diameter shaft extends downwards from the motor, through the support plate, and into the liquid. It is supported only by the bearings above, with no seals, bushings, or bearings submerged in the fluid.
- Submerged Pump End: The “wet end”—the pump casing and a specialized non-clog or vortex impeller—is located at the bottom of the shaft and is fully submerged. It draws in the heavy slurry and pumps it upwards through a separate discharge pipe that runs parallel to the shaft column.
By eliminating all submerged wearing parts, the pump can run continuously in highly abrasive liquids that would rapidly destroy the seals and bearings of a conventional submersible or dry pit pump.
Key Features & Benefits:
- No Submerged Bearings or Seals: The cantilever design offers unmatched reliability and drastically reduced maintenance by keeping all bearings and seals safe from the abrasive and corrosive liquid.
- Extreme Wear Resistance: The pump’s wetted parts (casing and impeller) are constructed from high-chrome iron or other hardened alloys to provide maximum resistance to abrasion from sand, grit, and sludge.
- Handles Dense Slurries & Solids: Truly a “dredge” pump, it is capable of pumping high concentrations of solids and heavy, settled sludge.
- Customizable for Sump Depth: The pump’s vertical column length can be manufactured to various lengths to suit the specific depth of any pit or tank.
- Vertical, Top-Mounted Design: Easy to install on the top of a tank and requires minimal floor space.
Common Applications:
- Pumping abrasive slurries in industrial process sumps (e.g., mill scale, wash-down pits, chemical waste).
- Dewatering in mines, quarries, and sand/gravel washing plants.
- Pumping heavy, concentrated sludge from wastewater treatment plant digesters and grit chambers.
- Sump pumping in power plants, particularly for coal pile runoff and ash slurries.
- Any deep sump application where the liquid is too aggressive for standard submersible pumps.
