Vertical Turbine Sewage Pump

Introduction: The Vertical Turbine Sewage Pump is a specialized solution engineered to solve one of the toughest challenges in wastewater management: lifting sewage from extremely deep wet wells or pumping it against very high pressure. It combines the powerful, multi-stage, high-pressure capabilities of a deep-well turbine pump with the robust, solids-handling design of a non-clog sewage pump. This design places the motor safely at the surface while the pumping element is submerged deep below, making it ideal for deep, space-constrained lift stations.

Operating Principle: This pump operates differently from standard centrifugal pumps. Its ability to generate high pressure comes from its multi-stage design, which has been adapted for sewage:

  1. Multi-Stage Assembly: The pump’s “wet end” is not a single casing but a series of stacked stages, called “bowls.” Each bowl contains a specialized non-clog impeller and a diffuser.
  2. Pressure Buildup: Liquid is drawn into the bottom bowl, where the first impeller pressurizes it. The diffuser then efficiently converts the fluid’s velocity into more pressure and directs it smoothly into the eye of the next impeller in the stage above. This process is repeated through each stage, with every stage adding more pressure to the liquid.
  3. Solids-Handling Adaptation: Unlike clean water turbines with tight clearances, the sewage version uses specially designed non-clog or vortex impellers and has wider internal passages. This allows solids and fibrous materials to pass through without jamming, a critical modification for wastewater applications.
  4. Configuration: The motor is mounted vertically at the surface on a discharge head. A long line shaft extends from the motor down a column pipe to drive the submerged pump bowls.

Key Features & Benefits:

  • Exceptional High-Head Performance: Its multi-stage design allows it to generate extremely high pressures, making it capable of lifting sewage from depths that are impossible for standard submersible or self-priming pumps.
  • Surface-Mounted Motor: The motor is kept high and dry, safe from flooding and easily accessible for routine maintenance, inspection, and service.
  • Space-Saving Footprint: The vertical design requires very little surface area, making it perfect for installation in tight or crowded locations.
  • Customizable for Deep Sumps: The pump’s length (number of stages and column pipe length) is fully customizable to meet the specific depth and pressure requirements of any deep lift station.
  • Engineered for Solids Handling: The modified non-clog impellers and bowls are specifically designed to provide reliable, clog-free performance in raw sewage applications.

Common Applications:

  • Deep municipal sewage and stormwater lift stations (e.g., depths exceeding 30-50 feet).
  • Pumping effluent from wastewater treatment plants up to elevated discharge points or for long-distance transfer.
  • High-pressure sewage pumping for industrial facilities.
  • Dewatering of very deep construction sites, tunnels, or mine shafts where solids are present.
  • Lifting sewage from deep underground parking garages or building basements to a significantly higher city sewer level.
